Food Salvage

Wasted food is one of the largest generators of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Most of this waste is sent to landfills or incinerators, releasing methane. Additionally, when food is wasted, all the energy and water it takes to grow, harvest, transport, and package it is also wasted.

The Village of Irvington is committed to empowering Village residents and employees alike to have an impact and harness collective action to become a leading environmental municipality in New York State. We thank you for your help in reaching our community goals!

We help bring good nutritious food to areas in Westchester County — wherever it’s needed most. Although Westchester is a wealthy area, wages remain low and stagnant for the working poor, and the cost of living continues to rise. With fixed expenses like rent and childcare, groceries are often the first family expense to be cut.
